Why Source Handicrafts from Nepal?

Nepal is one of the world's richest sources of authentic handmade products, with centuries-old craft traditions and a thriving artisan community.

Fair Trade Practices

Our artisan partners receive fair wages that support their families and communities. Many workshops are run by women's cooperatives, providing economic independence and empowerment in rural Nepal. Every purchase supports sustainable livelihoods.

Unique Craftsmanship

Nepali handicrafts are made using techniques that cannot be replicated by machines — hand-hammered singing bowls, mineral-pigment thangka paintings, lost-wax cast bronze statues. Each piece is genuinely unique, with the subtle variations that prove authentic handwork.

Competitive Pricing

Direct sourcing from Kathmandu workshops eliminates multiple layers of middlemen. Combined with Nepal's competitive labor costs and trade preference programs (duty-free access to EU, US GSP), you get exceptional handmade products at prices that allow healthy retail margins.

Centuries-Old Traditions

Nepal's craft traditions span millennia — Patan's metalworkers have been casting bronze since the 3rd century, pashmina weaving dates to the 15th century, and Lokta papermaking has been documented for over 1,000 years. When you source from Nepal, you are connecting your customers to living history.

What Our Buyers Say

“Nepal Felt Crafts has been our primary felt supplier for four years. The quality is outstanding — vibrant colors, clean construction, and durable products that our customers love. As a WFTO member store, we appreciate their genuine commitment to fair trade. They provided full supply chain documentation that satisfied our certification audit. The safety certifications (EN-71 and ASTM F963) give us confidence selling for all age groups. The animal slippers for kids fly off the shelves — especially the cat and fox designs. “I sell handmade felt ornaments and garlands at Christmas markets across Bavaria. Nepal Felt Crafts produces exactly what my customers want — unique, colorful, handmade pieces with a story behind them. I order in June for October delivery and they have never missed a deadline. The pricing allows good margins even at market-friendly prices. My bestsellers are the felt ball garlands and Santa ornaments.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to the most common questions about sourcing Nepali handicrafts for your business.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of wool is used in your felt products?
We use New Zealand merino wool (19-21 micron), which is soft, non-scratchy, and hypoallergenic. Merino wool is ideal for felting because its natural scales interlock tightly during the wet felting process, creating dense, durable fabric. We import the wool as raw roving and dye it in Kathmandu using AZO-free dyes in over 50 vibrant colors.
What is the minimum order quantity for wholesale?
Standard MOQs: 100 pieces per design for bags, slippers, and toys. 200 pieces per design for small items like ornaments and coasters. 20 pieces for rugs and larger items. Custom design orders require 100-200 piece minimums depending on product type. First-time buyers can order sample packs of 10-20 mixed items at retail pricing.
Are your products fair trade certified?
Yes, our production is based in women's cooperatives in Kathmandu that follow fair trade principles — fair wages, safe working conditions, no child labor, and community investment. Several of our partner cooperatives hold WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization) membership. We provide fair trade documentation and supply chain transparency reports for retailers who need them.
Are the dyes safe for children's products?
Yes, all our dyes are AZO-free and meet OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I requirements (safe for baby contact). For children's toys, we can provide EN-71 (EU) and ASTM F963 (US) safety test reports. All materials used in children's products are non-toxic and hypoallergenic. We use felt-applique eyes instead of plastic safety eyes for under-3 age group items.
How do you handle custom color matching?
We offer Pantone color matching for custom orders. Send us your Pantone reference, and we dye a sample wool batch for your physical approval before dyeing the full production batch. Color matching typically adds 1-2 weeks to the timeline. We maintain your approved dye formulas for consistent color reproduction across future orders.
