How It's Made

Understanding the production process helps you appreciate the craftsmanship and communicate the product story to your customers.

Wet felting begins with laying out layers of merino wool roving on a bamboo mat, alternating fiber direction for strength. Hot soapy water is applied and the wool is rolled, pressed, and massaged for 30-60 minutes until the fibers interlock and shrink into a dense, durable felt fabric. The felt is then cut to pattern, shaped over molds (for 3D bags), and dried. Details like pockets, straps, zippers, and decorative elements are added by hand. Needle-felted decorations (flowers, animals, patterns) are applied using barbed needles that tangle surface fibers together.

Are felt bags durable enough for daily use?
Yes, wet-felted merino wool creates a surprisingly durable fabric. Our bags use dense felt (3-5mm thick) that resists tearing and maintains shape. The natural lanolin in wool provides some water resistance. With normal use, felt bags last 2-5 years. We reinforce stress points (handles, strap attachments, zippers) with additional stitching.
Can I order bags with my own design?
Absolutely. We produce custom felt bags from your design sketches or specifications. Custom options include color matching, size adjustments, logo applique, branded labels, and custom packaging. Custom design orders require a minimum of 200 pieces and 4-6 weeks for sample development plus production.
How are the bags cleaned?
Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. For deeper cleaning, hand wash in cold water with wool detergent, gently press (never wring), reshape, and air dry flat. Felt does not absorb odors easily and the natural lanolin provides some stain resistance. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
