How It's Made

Understanding the production process helps you appreciate the craftsmanship and communicate the product story to your customers.

Pebble rugs are assembled from individual felt balls — each ball is wet-felted by hand from dyed wool roving, then hundreds of balls are stitched together on a backing fabric to create the rug. The color arrangement follows a pattern chart designed by our in-house team. Flat felted rugs are made by layering colored wool roving in patterns on a large surface, then wet-felting the entire piece at once — the colors merge where they overlap, creating soft edges. After felting, rugs are trimmed to final dimensions, and backing is applied for stability and slip resistance.

Felt Rugs & Mats — Frequently Asked Questions

How many felt balls make up a rug?
A 90cm round pebble rug contains approximately 800-1000 felt balls. A 120cm round rug uses 1200-1500 balls. A 120x180cm rectangular rug uses approximately 2000-2500 balls. Each ball is individually hand-felted, which is why pebble rugs require significant production time and are priced higher than flat felted rugs.
Can I choose custom color combinations?
Yes, we offer fully customizable color palettes. You can select from our 50+ available wool colors and specify the proportion of each color. We create a digital mockup for your approval before production begins. Pantone matching for specific colors adds 1-2 weeks for dye development.
Are felt rugs suitable for high-traffic areas?
Felt rugs work best in medium-traffic areas — living rooms, bedrooms, home offices, and under dining tables. For heavy commercial traffic, we recommend our denser flat-felted rugs over pebble rugs. Wool is naturally resilient and recovers from compression, but extremely high foot traffic will eventually compress the felt balls. Rotating the rug periodically extends its life.
